We had a home inspector come and inspect our new home prior to our home orientation. Will all of the items he identified be corrected before closing?
We encourage home inspections on all new homes. Touchstone Homes will or will not make repairs of these items based on codes requirements and/or Touchstone Homes guidelines located in your Homeowner Handbook.
On my 30 day or 11 month warranty request I noted some cosmetic damage in my home that I would like fixed by Touchstone Homes. I was told by the Quality Assurance representative that came out to work on my home that these items were excluded from our warranty. Is this correct?
Our limited 1 year warranty covers a multitude of items in your new home. However, cosmetic damage identified after you move into your new home is the responsibility of the homeowner. Touchstone Homes is always available to assist you with information about cosmetic repairs you may need to make.
If I have an emergency that involves plumbing, heating and air, electrical or appliances who can I call to get immediate response?
At the time of your homeowner orientation a sticker was placed on the inside of your kitchen sink base cabinet. This sticker includes the warranty phone numbers for the major trade partners that built your home. Please call the appropriate trade directly to setup a service call. It also has Touchstone Homes warranty department number. Please inform us as well once you have setup the appointment so we can ensure all work is completed.
Should I seal my deck with a quality wood sealer as soon as I move in, or should I wait for a couple of months?
Application of a quality clear water repellent or semi-transparent stain which contains a water repellant will help minimize the cycles of moisture take-up and loss the wood goes through outdoors. For maximum protection, one of these products should be applied as soon as you move into your new home.
How do I clean my hardwood floors?
Use a cleaner specifically formulated for cleaning hardwood floors. These are sold at grocery stores and home improvement stores. Do NOT use water to clean any hardwood floor! A flooring care and use guide which has additional details was included in the binder you received at closing.
Why does my new home have cracks in the concrete?
All concrete will crack to some extent. Expansion and contraction joints are used in exterior concrete to help control and minimize cracks. This is completely normal. See your Touchstone Homeowner Handbook for additional information on cracks and their warranty guidelines.
